Bite Size Health Sessions

These bite size training sessions will enable frontline staff in the public, private and charity sector to support and empower their service users, clients and customers.

This training is ideal for:

  • anyone delivering services or supporting residents, staff and/ or students in the borough of Kingston upon Thames
  • staff in statutory services who are engaging with customers frequently e.g. housing support workers, library staff, children centre staff
  • staff and volunteers from voluntary and community sector organisations who engage with community members e.g. advice services staff, family and children's groups, crisis support services, older people support
  • staff delivering health services

Upcoming bite size sessions:

Boom Credit Union (date tbc) - presented by Catherine Illingworth, Boom Business Associate.

This session will cover:

  • Who Boom are
  • Who they might be able to help with savings, current accounts and loans (not everybody qualifies for a loan)
  • How to signpost
  • How it works for the member  


Previous sessions:

Smoking Cessation (October 2021) - presented by Julie Chong, Kingston's Stop Smoking Service Coordinator at Kick-it.

This session covered:

  • what smoking cessation is and introduced the Kick It Stop Smoking Service
  • why smoking is damaging to health
  • how to give VBA (very brief advice) to smokers and help them access the stop smoking programme
  • how to refer into the service

Employment & Benefits (June 2021) - presented by Mona Rahimi, Partnership Manager, Work & Health Services Group, Kingston Jobcentre Plus

This session covered:

  • where to signpost someone who has recently lost their job
  • advice on how to support them to claim benefits
  • other support that is available - financial, training etc

  • knowing where to go if someone has a housing issue
  • understanding what to do if a resident is facing homelessness
  • signposting residents to financial support for mortgage payments, housing benefits and private housing deposits
