The complex intersection of domestic abuse, dementia, and carer abuse

Thursday 25 June 2026
10:00 to 13:00

Specialist 3-hour training for professionals across Kingston exploring the complex intersection of domestic abuse, dementia and carer abuse.

Join this specialist 3-hour training for health and social care professionals across the borough, exploring the complex intersection of domestic abuse, dementia, and carer abuse. Building on the learning from the training "Supporting Older Survivors", the session will provide practical tools and confidence to work effectively with survivors affected by dementia.

The training will cover the dynamics of domestic abuse when the survivor or alleged perpetrator is impacted by dementia, person-centred and rights-based approaches, risk assessment and safety planning, and the challenges of multi-agency working in complex cases. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how cognitive impairment and fluctuating capacity can affect risk, communication, and decision-making, while developing practical strategies for responding safely and compassionately.

Designed for professionals across health, social care, safeguarding, domestic abuse, and related services, this training will strengthen participants’ ability to recognise risk and work collaboratively to support some of the most vulnerable adults in our communities.

This bespoke training session was developed specifically for professionals in the Kingston borough in response to a recent domestic abuse related death review.

There are 40 spaces available, and a wait-list will be put in place for future dates.
