What is Chronic Kidney Disease?

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a long-term condition where the kidneys do not work as well as they should.

With CKD, waste products can build up in the body and the kidneys may also leak blood and protein into your urine. CKD is mostly caused by high blood pressure and diabetes (as well as some other causes).

CKD can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack and stroke, so it is important to look after your kidneys.

How can KVA help with raising awareness of CKD?

Our Community Health Officer, Kathy Wong, is able to attend your community organisation or event to help raise awareness of CKD and carry out mini health checks;

  • Mini Health Checks – carry out blood pressure checks with members
  • Health Talk – An engaging session talking about CKD, symptoms and information on looking after your kidneys
