As London faces hotter summers, the Mayor of London is calling on organisations, community groups, and venue operators to be part of the solution by registering their sites as Cool Spaces for summer 2025.
πΏ What Are Cool Spaces?
Cool Spaces are indoor public venues that offer a safe, welcoming, and air-cooled environment for people to rest and escape the heat. These spaces are vital for protecting vulnerable Londoners during periods of extreme heat.
ποΈ Could Your Venue Qualify?
If your site is open to the public and meets basic criteria—such as seating, drinking water, and accessible toilets—you could become a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Cool Space. Libraries, community centres, places of worship, and other public buildings are all encouraged to apply.
π When Are Cool Spaces Needed?
Cool Spaces are active from 1 June to 30 September, aligning with the UK’s heat-health alerting season.
π Why Register?
- Support your local community
- Help reduce heat-related health risks
