Green Grant Scheme for Children & Young People
Kingston Council are inviting applications to a small grant fund (total £5,000) which is available to groups working with children and young people in the Royal Borough for projects supporting the Kingston Climate Action Plan.
The grants available are for up to £1,000 per group and are for groups based in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames only.
Projects must actively involve children and young people, up to the age of 25, and where possible, include those who have learning difficulties or disabilities.
Who can apply?
- Not-for-profit organisations
- Voluntary or community sector organisations
- Faith groups
What you need to have in place:
- a written Constitution or Memorandum and Articles or set of rules that establishes that you are a voluntary, community, faith or other not-for-profit organisation. (If you are not one of these, can you say how surpluses are re-invested?)
- a management committee or board of trustees/directors with at least three members
- a bank or building society account in the name of the organisation
- at least two unrelated people to authorise cheques and make withdrawals (including debit card or internet purchases or cash withdrawals)
- an accounting system such as annual accounts to record income and expenditure
What the funding is for:
The aim of the funding is to support events, projects and activities that engage children and young people and contribute to meeting one or more of the Council’s Climate Action Plan priorities which are:
- To use less gas and electricity while still doing the things we need to do, preferably using renewable energy sources (solar, wind and water)
- To plant things better able to cope with a changing climate; hotter, wetter or that support insects and wildlife to thrive
- Grow food locally and/or promote more sustainable diets (lower meat consumption for example) and lessen food waste
- Support using cars less where possible, and instead use public transport, walking, cycling etc.
What the grant cannot be used for:
- The grant cannot be used to fund an ongoing deficit.
