Walking and Cycling Grants London (WCGL) and Community Ideas Grants, funded by Transport for London and The London Marathon Foundation, aim to enable all Londoners to enjoy the freedom and health benefits of walking and cycling. Grants of up to 5,000 are available for projects that deliver between January and September 2026. Grants are for community groups, charities and social enterprises to deliver walking and cycling projects. Example projects include rides for children with disabilities, learning to cycle or repair bikes, or walks for people suffering from ill health or isolation. Find out more about the two types of grants below.
Walking and Cycling Grants
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to community groups, charities and social enterprises to deliver walking and cycling projects that help get their local communities active, improve health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation. To date, the programme has helped over 89,000 participants in 33 boroughs to get more out of walking and cycling through activities such as rides for children with disabilities, learning to cycle or repair bikes, or walks for people suffering from ill health or isolation.
Community Ideas Grants
Community Ideas Grants offer up to £5,000 for one year for projects that encourage walking and cycling. Grants are available to community groups, charities and social enterprises to deliver walking and cycling projects that help get their local communities active, improve health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation (conditions apply).
Applicants can select from a list of template project ideas to deliver in their area and will receive additional support throughout the project process. Example projects include school bike buses, nature and heritage works, and bike recycling.
To apply for a Community Ideas Grant, our team are keen to learn more about your organisation and how you will adapt one of our template ideas for your local community.
Please contact wcgl@groundwork.org.uk or 020 7239 1286, for an application form.
