Do you need funding for a capital project?

The Clothworkers’ foundation’s Open Grants Programme provides capital grants only.

Capital grants are for:

Buildings:

This includes the purchase, construction, renovation or refurbishment of a building

Fittings, fixtures and equipment:

This includes office equipment/furniture, sports/gym equipment, digital/audio-visual equipment, software and website, garden equipment, and specialist therapeutic equipment.

Digital infrastructure

This includes one-off (not ongoing) costs for the digitisation of processes, the development or updating of communication platforms such as websites or apps or adding digital features to existing services.

Vehicles:

This includes minibuses, cars, caravans, people carriers, 4x4 and boats.

They do not provide support for running costs such as salaries and overheads; volunteer expenses; training, rent etc. so do not apply for these.

Priority areas

They prioritise funding capital costs that support the infrastructure needs of small and medium sized organisations that work with disadvantaged and marginalised communities. They will also want to see that your organisation is led by and involves the communities you help.

You must be able to demonstrate that the work of your organisation fits within one or more of the below Programme Areas, and at least 50% of service users benefiting from the capital project are from one or more of these groups.

  • Communities experiencing racial inequalities
  • Disabilities including mental health or visual impairment
  • Domestic or sexual abuse
  • Economic disadvantage
  • Homelessness
  • LGBT+ communities
  • Older people facing disadvantage
  • Prison rehabilitation
  • Substance misuse and addiction
  • Young people facing disadvantage
