Albert Hunt Trust

Grants are available to local registered charities in the UK that provide hospice care, provide support for the homeless or promote health and wellbeing.

Background

The Albert Hunt Trust is a grant-giving charitable trust that provides grants to UK registered charities that are based and working locally in the UK. It has distributed more than £40 million in grants since it was established in January 1979.

The Albert Hunt Trust announced in July 2023 that it plans to spend its entire resource by January 2029, its 50th anniversary. The Trustees are regularly reviewing the Trust's grant making strategy particularly as they plan for the Trust's closure in 2029. Applicants should refer to the philosophy page on the Trust's website for guidance and updates.

Objectives of Fund

Core funding is available to support local charities throughout the UK that:

  • Provide hospice care - this is a priority
  • Provide support for the homeless.
  • Promote health and wellbeing for areas such as family support, such as Home Start, children and young people counselling services, suicide prevention, specific carers support, cancer support, prisoner support and rehabilitation, community centres, food banks and debt advice. From October 2024, priority is being given to services that support children and young adults up to the age of 25, not to organisations providing adult mental health support.

The following funding is currently available:

  • Core funding of hospices - typical grant sizes now range from £10,000 to £30,000 (a decrease from the previous £20,000 to £40,000).
  • Core funding support for the homeless - typical grant sizes now range from £4,000 to £7,000 (a decrease from the previous £5,000 to £10,000).
  • Promoting health and wellbeing - typical grant sizes range from £1,000 to £5,000.
