Understanding self-harm in children and young people

Consider the systemic impact of self-harm on children and young people and their families, challenge myths, and learn the facts.

Self-harm is a common coping strategy utilised by children and young people. The aim of this training session is to understand its impact, challenge myths and learn the facts, consider the systemic harm faced by children and young people and their families, and develop some approaches to support young people who are experiencing self-harm.

 

Please note: cameras must be switched ON for all participants.

 

Learning objectives

  • Appraise the wider determinants of mental health which may contribute to self-harm and feel able to challenge existing stigma
  • Feel confident utilising the tools and interventions discussed to readily implement within your own practice
  • Recognise the wider social and health determinants for reducing the risk and frequency of self-harm
  • Reflect and be able to identify areas for further continuous professional development

 

The session will be led by Cath Pickles, CEO at Restitute.
