Explore the impact of cultural stigmas and taboos on the presentation and responses to mental distress and professional engagement

Learning objectives

  • Explore the meaning of cultural stigmas and impact of culture, ethnicity, and spirituality
  • Examine the impact of mental health difficulties on the lived experiences of Black and global majority children and families
  • Examine the cultural, professional, institutional, structural, and historical victimisation and discrimination of cultural stigmas
  • Identify strategies to improve safeguarding and overcome stigmatising mental distress among Black and minority ethnic communities
