On Saturday 7 February 2026, the Ella Baker School of Organising will be bringing its celebrated Defeating Narratives of Division sessions to London.

This interactive training day will explore how we can reach out to those of our people who say: ‘I am not racist but …’ and get them to re-examine their ideas on the role of multiculturalism, migration, and minorities generally, in our society. The anticipated sessions include:

Class Alternatives to Narratives of Division
A workshop which explores the political and economic context in which racism and other narratives of division are growing rapidly, including in our organisations.

Transformative Conversations
This session considers how we can engage with people who hold views we do not like - what techniques can induce them to reconsider their views (spoiler alert: telling them that they're stupid seldom works).

Bridging Division through an Inclusive ‘Story of Us’
The far right have a ‘story of us’ - it is centred on a perceived threat to the privilege people get from belonging to the dominant ethnicity, sexuality and/or faith identities in our society. How can we build an alternative story of us, one that is inclusive and celebratory?

What Next?
There is an urgency to tackling narratives of division, whether they be in our workplaces or communities, this session will explore strategic choices about how to move forward.
