Safeguarding Children: A Shared Responsibility Level 2 - Inset (The Crown Nursery)

Tuesday 23 December 2025
09:00 to 12:30

If you work frequently with children and their families then it’s essential that you have an up-to-date knowledge of local safeguarding procedures. No matter where you work you are likely to encounter children during the course of your normal working activities. You are in a unique position to be able to observe signs of abuse or neglect, or changes in behaviour which may indicate a child may be being abused or neglected.

All those working with children and young people should make sure that they are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, that they question the behaviours, not taking everything they are told at face value.

This course is for staff and volunteers in regular contact or who have a period of intense but irregular contact with children and young people and/or parents/carers including all health clinical staff, who may be in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment. At the end of the course delegates will have a greater understanding of safeguarding and the processes involved and be more aware how these fit in relation to their role in their organisation. This session is for the named school only.

Description

This training is awareness level and is designed to provide practitioners with a brief introduction to the knowledge, skills and the ability required to work in partnership on the processes for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

This course relates to the issues surrounding safeguarding children by exploring the concepts of child vulnerability, child protection and significant harm coupled with the individual and organisational responsibilities of safeguarding children. Building on these concepts child abuse will be explored the facilitator will define the term and introduce the four main forms of abuse; physical abuse; emotional abuse; sexual abuse and neglect.

Delegates attending will be able to recognise the signs of child abuse by focusing on examples, including the behavioural and physical indicators. A practical approach will be taken to define the responsibility of organisations and individuals in relation to handling a disclosure of abuse by children, and the subsequent recording and reporting of the disclosure. Many practical examples will be provided to give delegates insight into how to manage the difficult situation of disclosure with encouragement to develop personal checklists for these situations.

During this session practitioners will be given an overview of safeguarding themes including: Forced Marriage, Honour Based Violence, Domestic Abuse, Female Genital Mutilation and Prevent. The training will incorporate group exercises, scenario based learning and discussion to challenge understanding of safeguarding situations.
