Conflict Resolution

Thursday 22 January 2026
09:30 to 12:30

Workplace conflict is costing UK employers £28.5bn a year, with the majority of these costs coming from absences, presenteeism and resignations (ACAS, May 2021). In our high pressure roles, we can all find ourselves caught in a conflict which negatively affects our performance, motivation and wellbeing. This workshop explores how we can effectively resolve conflict in order to reduce our stress and improve our relationships.

This half day workshop explores the underlying skills that enable us to manage our time more effectively within busy and pressured professions.

Description

We know that as individuals we all have our own ways of communicating, working and problem solving. Differing opinions and styles are a key asset in an effective team: creating opportunities for new solutions, innovation and development of empathy. However, these differences can slip into conflict, with both parties feeling unable to resolve the situation. This course explores the most common causes of conflict in the workplace. By identifying the causes we are able to act early to prevent issues escalating. Nevertheless, the course also explores several different models of conflict resolution to empower us when conflict does arise.

Effective conflict resolution should result in both parties feeling satisfied with the outcome and be ready to move on. In this workshop we explore the importance of our communication skills to resolve situations. We will discuss the impact of emotion within these situations and how we can remain objective in order to be solution-focused, respectful and a strong team. An inclusive and interactive workshop, this session will require delegates to get involved in quizzes, discussions and simple tasks to build their understanding and apply it to their roles.

This workshop will be delivered by Lydia Hughes, who is an experienced trainer with over six years experience on the frontline as a youth worker, manager and course developer. Lydia comes with extensive knowledge of supporting teams experiencing high levels of conflict. She is passionate about enabling workers to reach their potential whilst maintaining their own wellbeing.
