Risk Outside The Home (ROTH) - Multi Agency Training
Monday 27 January 2025
09:15 to 17:00
We are delighted to be holding multi-agency training on the Risk Outside The Home (ROTH) response that is in place for Kingston and Richmond children.
The morning will focus on what our multi-agency partners understand about contextual safeguarding from their perspectives (police, education, health, social care and the contextual safeguarding team at AfC).
In the afternoon we will look at a case study and hold a short mock conference for both a ROTH plan and a context conference. Context conferences are held where geographical areas of risk including specific territories, congregation points, anti-social behaviour and crime hot spots; physically unsafe areas and places of concern are discussed within the same framework as that of a child protection conference; no children’s names are shared and the meeting focuses on increasing strengths and community guardianship of the area and reducing risk in order to safeguard children in the area.

Description
Risk outside the home is a new local response to protect children at risk of significant harm from extra familial / contextual safeguarding risks. A Risk Outside The Home Review is equivalent to a child protection conference. The focus is on the risks for the child outside the home and building a plan in partnership with them, their family and community. The gateway to a risk outside the home plan is via a child protection conference.
In the words of a child involved in the pilot: Part of me felt safe but not when going out. I feel very safe now.
In the words of a parent involved in the pilot: I was reassured that I was doing everything I could possibly do, as a parent I may have felt a bit blamed, some mums and dads may feel like all the people are pointing the finger, but I knew I had done everything humanly possible I could for my son, with my head held high a different mind-set, the professionals were all very positive about me and they were learning from the way that I was dealing with it, mums and dads need to hear this.
