Trauma Informed Practice - Introductory Session

Monday 13 October 2025
09:30 to 13:30

Outline

When people experience adversity in their childhood or experience other types of trauma, it can have a negative impact across their lifetime. It can impact on the way they think, the decisions they make, their behavior. It may be why people you are trying to help or work with act in unexpected, unpredictable or unreasonable ways which can be difficult to understand.

Description

During this session the training will explore, and clarify, what trauma means and how it impacts people and their behaviour and presentation.

The training will navigate how to apply this understanding to our work and consider principles that can become the foundation of our practice.

The approach will be to start from a strengths-based position, identifying what you already do well and building from there. We will spend time navigating self-care and protecting your wellbeing when exposed to other peoples trauma. You will receive resources and post-session guidance to continue to develop and embed trauma-informed approaches to your work.

Outcomes

By the end of this training session delegates will be able to:

  • Identify what trauma means

  • Recognise the impact of trauma on behavior

  • Demonstrate how to embed trauma informed practice into your role

  • Consider a strength-based approach
