KRSCP Safeguarding Children: Child Protection Process Level 3 - Refresher

his course is for staff who have previously completed Level 2 and Level 3 safeguarding courses and are required to refresh their knowledge and skills.

This training session will refresh understanding delegates about the processes involved with child protection procedures, including statutory assessment. It is expected that all those who work predominantly with children, young people and/or carers who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns.

As a consequence practitioners need to ensure that their knowledge and skills are regularly kept up to date. It is recommended that designated safeguarding leads within schools refresh their Level 3 knowledge every two years and other organisations it is anticipated colleagues update their level 3 every three years.

This course will start promptly at the identified start time. Due to the nature of the content on this course anyone arriving late will be refused entry and will still be charged. Attendance is required for the full duration of the course, otherwise a certificate of attendance will not be provided.

Description

This course will focus on good practice and lessons learned in multi-agency child protection, providing participants with an understanding of the function and processes of child protection. Delivery of this session will be in a modular format using pre reading and scenario based exercises, pre-recorded audio presentation by the trainer and online interactive sessions with the trainer and other delegates. By the end of the course, through exploring real-life scenarios, delegates will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to recognise the signs and symptoms of child vulnerability and abuse.

The course is multi-agency and the facilitator will encourage small group discussions enabling practitioners to share their experiences and learning. This training session will be delivered by an experienced and knowledgeable trainer commissioned by the Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Children’s Partnership.
 

Outcomes

By the end of the refresher course delegates will be able to:
  • Recall the signs and indicators of abuse, the impact and the risk factors in family life.
  • Review ongoing national and local changes to child protection processes, incorporating the learning from serious case reviews.
  • Examine the correct referral processes and multi-agency management of child protection cases.
  • Discuss the related safer recruitment and whistle blowing issues
