KRSCP Safeguarding Children: A Shared Responsibility Level 2

Friday 04 April 2025
09:30 to 13:00

If you work frequently with children and their families then it’s essential that you have an up-to-date knowledge of local safeguarding procedures. No matter where you work you are likely to encounter children during the course of your normal working activities.

You are in a unique position to be able to observe signs of abuse or neglect, or changes in behaviour which may indicate a child may be being abused or neglected. All those working with children and young people should make sure that they are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, that they question the behaviours, not taking everything they are told at face value.

This course is for staff and volunteers in regular contact or who have a period of intense but irregular contact with children and young people and/or parents/carers including all health clinical staff, who may be in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment.

At the end of the course delegates will have a greater understanding of safeguarding and the processes involved and be more aware how these fit in relation to their role in their organisation.

Please note this is an online course and joining instructions will be sent to you prior to the course start time. We recommend that all delegates login to the session in plenty of time to avoid any technical delays.

If your organisation would like an in-service session delivered in your own setting on level 1 or 2 safeguarding please contact training@achievingforchildren.org.uk

Description

This course relates to the issues surrounding safeguarding children by exploring the concepts of child vulnerability, child protection and significant harm coupled with the individual and organisational responsibilities of safeguarding children. Building on these concepts child abuse will be explored the facilitator will define the term and introduce the four main forms of abuse; physical abuse; emotional abuse; sexual abuse and neglect.

Delegates attending will be able to recognise the signs of child abuse by focusing on examples, including the behavioural and physical indicators. A practical approach will be taken to define the responsibility of organisations and individuals in relation to handling a disclosure of abuse by children, and the subsequent recording and reporting of the disclosure.

Many practical examples will be provided to give delegates insight into how to manage the difficult situation of disclosure with encouragement to develop personal checklists for these situations.

This course will be delivered online remotely in a modular format using pre reading and scenario based exercises, pre-recorded audio presentation by the trainer and online interactive sessions with the trainer and other delegates. This course is multi-agency and for staff and volunteers in regular contact or who have a period of intense but irregular contact with children and young people and/or parents/carers.

This training session will be delivered by an experienced and knowledgeable trainer commissioned by the Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Children’s Partnership.
