The Buddy Scheme is a befriending scheme in Kingston that matches volunteers with a "buddy" with a learning disability, or on the Autistic Spectrum. The "buddy pair" then meets on a regular basis to take part in leisure activities together.
The Buddy scheme enables people who are socially isolated to get out and enjoy leisure activities with someone they like and trust. It helps with confidence, social skills, self-esteem, self-management; mental health, communication skills etc. Recent quotes from our service users about their experiences include:
'Makes me feel good'
'Happy, exciting'
'Gives me a social life and helps with my mental health'
For volunteers it offers a meaningful opportunity to make a positive difference to someone in the community. The most common words used by our volunteers about being on the scheme are
'Rewarding, Enjoyable, Fun'.
The Buddy Scheme is oversubscribed and we are always looking for more volunteers. No experience is required and training is provided. If you have just a few hours a month to spare and are kind, considerate, patient and reliable, then we would love to hear from you.

Befriending a Buddy helps them access and enjoy leisure facilities they might not otherwise be able to.
