Alison Ewart, Funding and Organisational Development Officer

Alison Ewart

About me:

I have worked in the voluntary sector for over twenty years, mainly in smaller community organisations, helping local communities identify what they need and organise and build capacity to achieve this. For the last six years I've worked as a Development Officer at Community Southwark, which, like Kingston Voluntary Action is a 'CVS' that supports the local voluntary sector. I worked directly with local  groups and through  running training,  to help them set up, choose the right legal form,  set up finance systems, plan their work and develop a funding strategy - and develop ways to monitor and evaluate their work. I also helped groups to maximise their impact by building networks and collaborating with other local groups. As at KVA, an important part of the role was to form productive relationships with local funders, local Councillors, local authority officers and the Corporate sector, so as to co-ordinate  support to the local voluntary sector.

I really enjoy seeing groups that are needed in the local community, set up and go from strength to strength, to support local people.

What I can help you with:

I can help you with identifying need and deciding whether to set up a local group or organisation, and how to go about it;  what to think about when considering what legal form to take;  help with registering your organisation:  developing policies and systems; business planning and fundraising, monitoring and evaluating your work, and signposting to local networks.
