Annual General Meeting - 2015

Kingston Voluntary Action’s 47th Annual General Meeting featuring the Kingston Quality Awards 2015

Our celebrations this year began with Kingston Voluntary Action's AGM, marking its achievements, celebrating volunteering and the successful launch of the Kingston Quality Awards for volunteer management.

As Guest Speaker this year, KVA was delighted to introduce Anna Newell from the Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).

Anna agreed to talk about the work of VSO.  KVA hopes that, as the VSO has relocated its 'world HQ' to Kingston, there is a lot to be learned, as well as information to offer in terms of local knowledge and the thriving voluntary and community sector that is Kingston.

Kingston Quality Awards

Anna presented the first Kingston Quality Awards (KQA) for Best Practice in Volunteer Management.  The KQA set out 10 key principles that guide Best Practice in Volunteer Management, recognising:

  • The importance of respecting equality and diversity
  • Reward and recognition
  • Ensuring proper management of the volunteer journey through induction
  • Volunteer's personal development
  • Providing a rewarding and safe working environment to work in

Go Kingston Volunteering (GKV), in partnership with Kingston First, Kingston Hospital and Staywell, have worked towards creating this new and unique award to Kingston.

Since June this year, seven volunteer-involving organisations have acquired the award, and eight others are currently going before the next panel for 2016.

KQA - 2015 achievers:

  • Go Kingston Volunteering
  • Kingston Citizens Advice Bureau
  • Kingston First
  • Kingston Home-Start
  • Kingston Hospital
  • Staywell
  • YMCA South West London
