The course will explore and understand issues around assertiveness including saying no, setting boundaries, being able to give a clear message, thinking about what you want for yourself and being able to articulate that. Gaining confidence and learning to handle difficult people, conversations and situations.

How to Chair Effective Meetings – Monday, 10 July
Hillcroft College, Surbiton – 10.00 – 12.00
This course will teach you the main skills in chairing meetings effectively so that you get the most out of the time, everyone is clear what they need to do and all participants are able to have their say. Ensuring that conflicts are resolved quickly and that decisions are made.

First Aid Training – Monday, 24 July
Hillcroft College, Surbiton – 10.00 – 12.00
This course is for people who work in a range of settings in the charity and volunteering sector. This training session will help you to be aware of basic First Aid procedures and wish to gain a wider understanding of issues related to First Aid.

The course covers how to deal with minor and deteriorating conditions in any casualty.

- Communication and casualty care
- Looking after yourself and the casualty
- Basic Life Support
- Treatment of an unresponsive casualty
- Priorities of first aid and managing the scene
- Treatment of a choking casualty

This course, by KVA project Superhighways, is for anyone working in a voluntary or community organisation who is responsible for monitoring and evaluating outcomes and communicating the results. Data can show that what you are doing works, showing your supporters and beneficiaries how valuable your services are and even increasing your income.

In Their Own words – Using the Power of Audio Storytelling – Monday, 12 June
St. Peter’s Church Hall, Kingston upon Thames – 10.00 – 14.30
This course, run by KVA project Superhighways, is for anyone working in a voluntary or community organisation that is responsible for capturing client or beneficiary testimonials and stories. You will need intermediate computer skills to take part.

Create Easy Infographics for Impact - Thursday, 29 June, 10.00 – 14.30
Battersea Library, London SW11 – 10.00 – 14.30
This course, by KVA project Superhighways, is for anyone working in a voluntary or community organisation that is responsible for reporting and communicating outcomes. You will need intermediate level computer skills but you do not need to be a techie to take part.  You'll come away with some great tips on use of charts, icons, colour and design principles to craft meaningful visuals that help you connect to supporters and beneficiaries.

Excel for Monitoring and Evaluating your Impact – Tuesday, 04 July
ComputSolutions, Brixton, London SW9 – 10.00 – 14.30
Join this course, by KVA project Superhighways, to gain a good understanding of using Excel to monitor and evaluate your services and get the practice you need to start applying your knowledge to your everyday work.  It is at Intermediate Level so is appropriate for people who already have a working knowledge of Excel. It is not suitable for complete beginners.

The Children and Young People's Network is a space for organisation and individuals in Kingston who work with children and young people to hear information and share best practice.

Health and Wellbeing Network - 27 June, 2pm - 4pm
Kingston Quaker Centre
The meeting will include Adult Safeguarding – (deferred from the March meeting) and Sport London on support and funding opportunities to work with VCS organisations that are not sport focused but to address health inequalities and support physical activities in the community

Digital Health Navigator Training – Monthly dates
Hillcroft College, Surbiton – 13.30 – 16.30
Kingston Digital Health Navigator training offers a practical hands-on session for your volunteers and staff, giving them the skills and knowledge to help local people find their way around a wealth of online health information.
Activities and resources include:

  • A walkthrough of the NHS Choices website with themed searches and quizzes
  • A detailed look at local health directories including an overview of the services and support voluntary and community groups offer 
  • How to install and using NHS recommended health apps
  • Signposting people to online support to develop their digital skills

There will be plenty of time for discussion around how you can apply your new skills and knowledge within your organisation. There will be many opportunities to ask questions and share personal experiences. 

All attendees will receive a Kingston Digital Health Navigator certificate on completion.
